The DePue Brothers Band’s unique concert presentation is an eclectic mix of musical genres from bluegrass, to classical, funk, jazz, rock, and more. The brothers have coined their overall sound, “Grassical” music, which comes to life as an intricate blend of virtuosic classical techniques and arrangements, blended seamlessly with that down home, American bluegrass fiddling.

They have three studio albums, their debut “Classical Grass”, then “Weapons of Grass Construction”, and their Holiday album “When It’s Christmas Time”. The latter, released in December, 2013, and it has become an increasingly cherished part of the Holiday season for many, as well as played on Sirius radio, and over 150 radio stations through the USA.

Made up of virtuoso musicians, the members of The DePue Brothers Band include the four brothers, Wallace Dr., Alex, Jason, and Zach, all of whom are classically trained violinists that have performed with some of the most prestigious musical organizations, including The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Indianapolis Symphony, Carnegie Hall, The Mainly Mozart Organization, and many more.

In addition, the band includes percussionist Don Liuzzi (Principal timpanist of The Philadelphia Orchestra), Guitarist  Kevin Hanson (Philly Pops and other touring ensembles), renowned jazz/rock/theatre bassist Kevin MacConnell, and revered Banjo player Mike Munford (2014 Banjo Player of the Year with IMBA, and active member of Frank Sullivan and The Dirty Kitchen Band).

Individually, the brothers’ musical endeavors are numerous. Here is a brief introduction to each of them:Zach DePue – A graduate of the prestigious Curtis institute, he went on immediately to become the youngest concert master in the country, in 2007, for the Indianapolis Symphony. At the same time, he was a founding member of innovative acoustic trio “Time For Three”, which garnered smashing success on the national level, “defying convention and musical boundaries”. He now performs extensively with the Indianapolis String Quartet, and is active as a player and program curator with the Mainly Mozart Organization, in San Diego, CA.

Jason DePue – Also a graduate of the Curtis Institute, Jason immediately went on to join the 1st violin section of the world class Philadelphia Orchestra, and has been a working member with them for over 20 years. He is also a skilled mandolin player. In musical leadership roles, Jason was concertmaster of the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland under James Levine, the Mannes School of Music’s New York String Orchestra Seminar under Jamie Laredo, the Symphony Orchestra of the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Music Symphony Festival Orchestra in Chautauqua Music, NY, among others. He is soon  releasing his first solo violin album, title to be announced!

Alex DePue – “…one of the leading improv violinists of his generation, with legendary prowess in bluegrass, rock, classical, jazz, and blues.” – Kansas City Tribune. Alex is well known for taking the violin to its limits, and then, taking it even further. He is also a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, drums, and piano, to name a few. He has held several state and national fiddle championship titles, toured with Capitol Records’ country artist Chris Cagle, and then joined legendary rock guitarist, Steve Vai on a world tour, showcasing his virtuosic chops on an electric violin, in the rock and roll genre. He has also maintained a duo with highly respected Mexican guitarist, Miguel DeHoyos, for over a decade. They have performed extensively in the U.S. and Mexico, and were even musical ambassadors in Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympic Arts Games! Alex has 4 solo albums, the most recent entitled “Modern Paganini”.

Dr. Wallace DePue Jr. – The first of the brothers to take up the violin, Wallace graduated from Bowling Green University, where their father was a professor for several decades, and went on to get a Masters from Temple U, and a Doctorate from The  has held positions as associate concert master of the Philly Pops, as well as the nationally touring Star Wars Orchestra, and has been working steadily with the Naples Philharmonic, after moving to his dream home of Florida, where he now resides. Wallace is credited for being one of the leading American musical figures for development of what is now known as “Grassical” music. In addition to playing the violin, he also deals in fine stringed instruments, through his company “Palm Strings”.

Hello friends of our beloved fiddler... I wanted to make sure to get this information out to anyone who might wish and be able to attend. I will be there, and I'd love to meet as many of you who have known and loved him throughout his life as possible. So much more to do, and I hope you all will continue to hang in there while I work on making progress towards his legacy projects. Simply getting through each day is much more difficult than I could have ever imagined. Love to you all. -The Mrs.#alexdepue #thefiddler #memorial #modernpaganini ... See MoreSee Less

*click see more for the link* ❤️ I wanted to make sure you all had a chance to listen to a re-air of an interview with Alex and Miguel, from a radio show called "Folkscene", in 2011. Our friend Peter Cutler re-aired his interview with them, in Alex's honor, this past April 10th. I meant to share it beforehand so you could listen live, but I lost track of my brain, as is prone to happen a bit these days. However, it's available in the archives for another week, so please check it out! 2nd hour of the show. ❤️🎶🎻*Bonus Alex & Candy pic attached to post, I'm hoping that will allow more of you to see this -The Mrs. *> archive.kpfk.org/"FolkScene is a syndicated music program established in 1970.
